Type Locality and Naming

South China Sea – Xisha islands. The type section is located at Xiyong Well No.1 in Yongxing Island, Xisha Islands ("Paracel Islands"). It was named and surveyed by Wang C. in 1979.

NOTE: There is not a standardized regional lithostratigraphy for the Xisha islands; nor for the nomenclature in the reference wells.

Synonym: Huangliu Fm ?


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by the white miogypsina-bioclastic limestone with slit- to fine-sized bioclast and phanero- and cryptocrystalline calcite, terrigenous bioclast is rare. Foraminifera, coral and algae fossils are yields. The thickness is 190 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is conformable in contact to the underlying Xisha Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformable in contact to the overlying Yongle Fm.

Regional extent

It is distributed in area around Yongxing island of Xisha Islands ("Paracel Islands").
